A recent clearing project has exposed the four 'P70' passenger cars that have been left on the Newport Secondary line for years. Prior to this project, these cars were not visible.

8/22/2007 - From a Newport Daily News article - "Wild shrubs and bushes surround the quartet of rusted railroad coaches, which bear graffiti instead of passengers.

Their broken windows and torn seats offer no hint of the days when the heavy steel cars, part of the Pennsylvania Railroad, provided commuter service around Pittsburgh and, decades later, from Westerly to Providence and Providence to Boston.

The once-comfortable coaches, among the earliest in the country to offer air conditioning, are abandoned on state-owned land at the former Weyerhauser property, where O'Neill Properties Group has plans to develop a high-end private resort overlooking Narragansett Bay's East Passage".
