Hudson, Mass.

This is a picture of the railbed of the former Hudson and South Lancaster. This area is located in Danforth Forest, off Lincoln St. This was a 9 mile railroad, built in the late 1800's. It connected Hudson with The Worcester, Nashua, and Portland in South Lancaster. It was completed, but never really in operation. Indeed, it closed after a very short time. This section is remarkably well preserved. Sometimes we would sneak out of school for a couple of classes and walk along this trail. There is also an excellent trout stream here, where we had many glorious times. It is still a good trip for a Saturday afternoon.
