Weirs Beach to Lakpeport

Courtesy of Weirsbeach.com is a photo of the Weirs Beach to Lakeport part of the railroad trip of the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. The railroad line was built in 1849 by the BC&M RR before any development occured on the then remote lake. The scenic railroad travels through the front yards of many expensive resort homes. Once part of the Boston and Maine Railroad, they brought tourists to the lake for summer vacations from the late 1890’s to the 1950’s. Early on they even operated some steamboats on the lake. Weirs Beach was a busy summer resort with many fine "Grand Style Hotels”. Through tickets from Boston to Center Harbor for example were issued by the mighty B&M with a changeover to the MV MT Washington at Weirs Beach.

Similarly the B&M also owned the Cog Railroad with a connection up hill from Fabyan Station to the Base Station of the Cog
