West Track

The Newport Secondary track was placed on that which was originally Fourth Street in downtown Newport.

This segment of track runs North from the end of 'Fourth Street'. It is located behind the famous 'Farewell Street, a street with cemetaries on both sides.

In the very distant view are two bridges, i.e., the Van Zandt Avenue bridge which carries traffic to the 'Point' section of Newport, and the Newport Pell Bridge which brings traffic on and off the island from the west.

There have been numerous studies and plans to utilize this very valuable transportation corridor for an access highway into downtown Newport.

This is a winter photo taken during the annual OCNRR Christmas vacation runs.
