After WWII the Central Vermont purchased 10 Texas 2-10-4 locomotives, supposedly the largest engines ever to run in New England. They worked St. Albans to Brattleboro, being too heavy for the Southern Division and they were too long for any turntables. So, the CV created this wye to turn them just south of the Brattleboro yard. The tracks look overgrown, but are still used today 2-3 times a week to turn engine sets on the NECR to keep a favored engine in the lead.
