Bedford Freight House

In October 2008, Bedford Freight House was undergoing renovations by a Massachusetts Highway Department contractor. They built a public restrooms addition at the rear of the building to serve Minuteman Bikeway users.

This structure was built in 1877 as the Engine House for the two-foot-gauge Billerica & Bedford Railroad. Later, it was acquired by the Boston & Lowell Railroad and converted to a freight shed. The Boston & Maine decommissioned its Freight House at Bedford, Massachusetts, circa 1952. Thereafter, the building was used as an agricultural feed and grain store, a VFW, a bakery, and a sandwich shop.

Once renovations are finished, it is expected that Bedford Freight House would be used as a museum/concession to serve the adjacent rail-trail.
