Walk the Portsmouth and DoverThe bridge that once carried the Portsmouth and Dover railroad across the Cochecho River has recently (finally) been converted to a pedestrian crossing as part of the long-awaited Dover Community Trail. The trail is planned to use the remaining former right of way, including the former tunnel under Silver Street (scheduled to be unearthed starting May 26th). The tunnel was filled in sometime in the late 90's I believe. I'll be adding pictures of the construction of the pedestrian trail as I can.
The bridge as seen in this photo isn't quite complete, and not technically open yet.
There are very few photos of this spur (as it eventually became when the Spaulding Turnpike was built) on NERAIL but some from the early 90's show Guilford trains parked on the bridge.
