Fitchburg Varnish

It's easy to see why they called passenger locomotives "varnish" in this 1890s photo of Fitchburg RR #73. The proud crew stands in front of "Train 202" as indicated by the changeable number on the head lamp.

Photographed by Unknown, 1890.
Added to the photo archive by Chuck Heidorn, June 25, 2009.
