Strasburg RR #90 "An American Icon"

It's been 11 years since I rode and photographed the Strasburg Railroad. To my surprise not much has changed and what has changed, changed for the better. Large coal fired steam locomotives, like #90 a 2-10-0, still pull long trains of all wood cars, as #90 is doing here at Groff's Grove picnic area. There is nothing like standing trackside as a large locomotive comes up the grade with black coal smoke pouring out.

Not only does this happen here but also during Strasburg's heavy summer season two steam powered trains can be seen here passing during the day. The equipment is nicely restored and well maintained just like all the shops and stores at the railroad. Thanks to all the Strasburg staff for keeping an American icon, the steam locomotive, in active service. I feel there will be many more years to come just like these.
