MECRR Calais Branch Columbia Falls

This picture was taken in Columbia Falls, Maine of a Track Date Nail installed in the Calais Branch in 1945. This picture was taken shortly before the track was removed.

The rail was laid in 1899, this tie was installed in 1945 and the last train ran in 1985. Amazingly this tie and date nail was in service for approximately 1/2 the life of the branch. If only that tie maker could have this as advertisement for product quality and Longevity.

Photographed by KIS, May 10, 2008.
