NS 7582 in Gardner MassNS 7582 lead locomotive on 22K. Is there an explanation for the red flag? Derailment in the consist? Prop the window open? Confuse railfans?
P.S.
Adam Bycholski explains; "To answer your question, it is displayed to let the oncoming train know to bring their train to a safe stop. I'm sure it was put over the radio, and the signals in the foreground display a STOP, but it covers the crews that every measure was taken to alert oncoming traffic. It could be anything on the stopped train, or something wrong with the opposing trains track, but to display this is for an absolute stop. Pan Am follows NORAC rules and this procedure is specified, crew followed it completely."
Thanks Adam!
