BML#50 pulling three MEC freight cars over City Point bridge (MP 2.0).BML#50, a GE 70-ton diesel electric locomotive purchased new by the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR in Waldo County, ME, in November, 1946 and still running strong after 68 years with three MEC freight cars sitting for a night photo shoot on the City Point bridge crossing over Head of Tide (MP 2.0) just outside Belfast, ME. This road's 33-mile grade was completed and opened in 1870, but the portion from Belfast to the turnout at the City Point Central Railroad Museum at MP 2.5 has been approved for railbanking and is scheduled to be pulled this Fall and converted to a running and bike trail. This, therefore, may well be the last time in the 144 years since the grade opened that there will have ever been an train on this bridge. I took this picture at about 9:30 on the evening of July 12, 2014, with a Nikon D40 DSLR using a 30-second time exposure augmented with the kind assistance of several local railfan photographers by multiple strobe flashes. This was also the night of a full moon that can just been seen rising.
