VRR is conducting a major roadbed surfacing and rail alignment project from the Essex station through Deep River, Chester, and Haddam Ct. The project is being fully funded by the Valley Railroad Co. 40 hopper cars of stone have been delivered (4 per delivery) by the Providence & Worcester RR to Old Saybrook Ct. where they are taken north to the Essex area by the VRR track crew.
