New England Southern on the Northfield / Tilton Town Line

Meanwhile, north of Concord on the former Boston and Maine rails... New England Southern 2555 (SW1500) waits on the Winnipesaukee River Bridge by the Northfield / Tilton town line, The crew must flag this crossing, though they can set the signals to stop in all directions, once all traffic was stopped, the crew took the train slowly across Main Street.

The NEGS train has their three MOW open hoppers, and two loaded slurry tank cars bound for the 3M plant in Tilton.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

When a train is in the circuit and shunting, a push button on a post on either side is interlocked with the traffic signals. After one of the crew pushes the button, in a few seconds they all turn red and a flashing light then alerts the train crew that all vehicle traffic has a red light.
