Before the major reconstruction of the 1980s that created the bright atrium of today, the interior of South Station was never especially grand. This was the original ticket office on a quiet day.

Very neat photo - IIRC, there was an interim time period in the '80s (?) where the passenger waiting area / ticket office was moved to a relatively small, not very charming, temporary shelter adjacent to the South Station head house perhaps while the head house renovation was underway?
