F40 pinch hitter

When Amtrak's Bombardier LRC locomotives were out of service, which was way too often, an F40PH took over. Here an F40 leads a pair of LRC coaches on the Boston-New Haven "Beacon Hill" at the old Providence station.

VIA removed their LRC Bombardier locomotives from service in 2001, and, thirty six plus years after your photo was taken, this is how VIA powers their LRC passenger cars on a regular basis!
