the PRR comes to Providence

By the summer of 1969, Penn Central had reassigned most former New Haven FL9s to Harlem and Hudson line commuter service and replaced them on Shore Line trains with ex-Pennsylvania RR E8s east of New Haven and GG1s to the west. Still wearing its Pennsy keystones, tuscan red E8 4262 paused in Providence with a Boston-bound train. This locomotive was later transferred to the MBTA.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, June, 1969.
Added to the photo archive by Tom Nelligan, April 3, 2017.
