Union Freight RR yard

This modest building and mini-yard off Atlantic Avenue was the operating center of the Union Freight Railroad, the New Haven subsidiary that switched customers along Boston's waterfront until 1970. A leased Penn Central (ex-NH) Alco switcher rests in the background. (In later years the UFRR had no power of its own.) No trace of this remains today.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, April, 1969.
