very early Amtrak on the NEC

Amtrak had been in business for a couple weeks when this photo was taken, but nothing had changed yet on the Shore Line as a Boston-bound train rolled past the Readville freight yard with the usual mix of former NYC and PRR coaches behind an ex-PRR E8. Amtrak would soon supplement these cars with better maintained equipment from southern and western railroads.
