This little narrow gauge diesel moved flat cars of new crossties in and out of the creosote ovens at the Moss American tie plant at the north end of Cedar Hill Yard in New Haven. At one time the plant was switched by equally tiny electrics. Steam locomotives weren't allowed there because of the fire hazard. Like most of the rest of the Cedar Hill complex, this operation is now long gone.

By contrast, the Koppers creosote plant 2 miles north of Nashua, NH, used standard gauge steam to load the retorts, albeit only 25 tons. Connecticut Coke used a fireless cooker 0-4-0 in its plant, making gas from coal and selling the coke residue.
