the final FederalThe only Northeast Corridor train not retained by Amtrak at startup was the Federal, PC 176-177, the overnight runs between Boston and Washington. On Amtrak eve, the final southbound Federal awaited its 9:45 PM departure from South Station behind the usual pair of E8s. Fortunately, within a year overnight service on this route would be restored with the inauguration of Amtrak's Night Owl, the ancestor of today's Amtrak 66-67.
