West end switcher working the rear of a McVille-Rigby train where pigs were generally kept on rear ahead of caboose to make for an "expedited move" by PT at Rigby Yard to get pigs placed for unloading. Note three light switching signal on tall mast north side of main next to first pig in photo. Signal used before advent of portable radios. Controls for signal were in tower and on ground where trainmen could observe switching move at west end of yard.

Neat collection of fallen flag rolling stock. Is the switch under the last covered hopper the connection to B&M's ex-NH Turners Falls branch?
