Springfield

For many years the Boston & Maine and New Haven shared a common Springfield engine facility along the NH line south of the B&A diamond, but that arrangement ended in 1969 when Penn Central took over the NH. (PC already had service facilities in West Springfield.) The B&M then started storing power in a fenced-off industrial lot adjacent to the B&M yard. F3 4228, an F7B, and an F7A awaited their next assignment there on a winter morning.
