Storage Track Progress in West Kingston, RI

Amtrak has started construction of the storage track (track 5?) located between the new track 3 and the lumber yard track. The work crew left the new track looking very much like snap track without rail joiners when it left for the holiday weekend. The snap track is in place from a new switch diverging from the lumber yard track at the west end most of the way to the new turnout off of track 3 at the east end. The timing of this work strikes me as a bit odd, as the ballast spreading and track leveling equipment used to prepare track 3 left town a while ago. It also appears that work on the track 3 catenary has ceased, with a singe (support?) wire joining some of the new catenary poles behind the track 3 platform at the station.
