MEC 515: "Back on These NH Rails"In six plus years of following rail activity on "These New Hampshire Rails" north of Manchester, it seems that some Pan Am locomotives are common sightings, while others miss rotations on these rails entirely. MEC 515 has been a common sighting since it's repaint/rebuilt in the summer of 2014 and it's been part of the power lineups for some very interesting trains such as the Circus Train Extras in 2015 and 2016, and the outbound Military Train in 2014. After catching the NA-1 crew switching out Coastal Lumber in Bow, here is the 515 stopped by Grappone Toyota along side Route 3A just before sunset on 9/29. At this point the cars would be left behind as the NA-1 crew took the engine north, light, to switch out Bow Blue Seal.
MEC 515 was built in 4/76 as CN 9656, and has been owned by Pan Am since 11/00. 515 got rebuilt and repainted in the summer of 2014, and is has since been owned by GMTX and leased back to Pan Am. Notice no Pan Am globe on the nose, and the class lights plated over, though the bell remained in the top center of the wide nose cab??
Great horns too !! And thanks to various sources for providing the historical facts for this GP40-2(w).
