First Train On The Adams ExtensionA Pan Am stone train (AD-1 crew) is seen backing down the Adams Branch extension at Adams, Mass. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017. This was the very first train to operate on the new track extension south of Cook Street. The last of the rails were laid down to Hoosac Street on Monday, Oct. 2. On Friday, Oct. 6, the Hoosac Valley Service ran their Budd rail diesel car down to the end of the track to test the line. It was the second train to run on the extension. Regular train rides commenced on Saturday, Oct. 7th. The branch was extended roughly a mile in length from Renfrew to Hoosac Street to allow the HVS to reach their new station terminal in the center of Adams. Note: The stone train seen here had a covered hopper car behind the ballast cars.
