SPV demonstrator

In April 1978 the MBTA evaluated Budd's SPV-2000 railcar as a possible replacement for the aging RDC fleet, and the demonstrator ran for a short time in revenue service. It's seen here at Needham Junction on an outbound Needham Branch run. Given that SPVs proved to be mechanically unreliable in CDOT/Amtrak and Metro North service, it's likely a good thing that the MBTA never purchased any.
