A pair of borrowed Amtrak E-units swing around the curve approaching Riverside station in Newton, MA, with an inbound MBTA train from Framingham. They were leased by the MBTA for a short time in the fall of 1978 since locomotives with steam generators were needed to supply the ex-NH coaches making up the train. Lead unit 423 is an ex-UP E9.
