last days of the el

The classic MBTA Orange Line el through the South End, Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain closed on April 30, 1987, as service switched to the new Southwest Corridor right-of-way. A week before the end, a northbound train rattled along above Washington Street as it made its way downtown. Neighbors were probably tired of the noise but it was a great ride through the city.
