MEC bridge over Connecticut River in Dalton, NH

The once mighty Mountain Division mainline of the Maine Central RR (MEC) crosses the Connecticut River here in Dalton NH. Lunenberg VT is over the bridge on the other side and St Johnsbury VT lies 23 miles further to the west. Portland, ME is about 107 miles away behind the photographer. MEC traffic ended in September 1983. Some sporadic freight continued until 1999 with the Twin State Railroad but a mill closing in Gilman, VT ended those revenue hopes.
