last day in Providence

By the final day of service at Providence Union Station, there was an empty space where once had been the stub tracks that accommodated sleepers and mail and express cars awaiting pickup by westbound trains. The embankment is now gone and a ground-level street and parking lot occupies this area behind the station.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, June 15, 1986.
