a couple hours in Niantic

The last Conrail road freights on the Shore Line were trains PN-1 and NP-2 operating between Providence and New Haven. As seen from the bridge operator's cabin, eastbound NP-2 approached the drawbridge at Niantic, CT, behind a pair of GP38s. The bridge operator that afternoon was a railfan friend who make this view possible.

Looks like they were in the midst of welded rail replacement to jointed rail.
