Train 997 is crossing the Charles River from Needham to Dover on the way to West Medway, MA. In the 50s, one of the coach trains laying over at Needham Junction needed a road switcher instead of an 0700. This enabled it to double as a connecting train, between Needham Jct. and West Medway,(Woodside). By the early 1960s, reduced ridership made it practical to cover the morning and evening runs with a single RDC, which was run as the rear car of one of the coach trains, between Boston and Needham Junction. Service was cut back to Millis in April, 1966. When a certain judge could no longer reject the cancelation application, service to Millis ended in April, 1967.
