Thanks again for your excellent photography. Ayer tower must have been still active at this time. It appears that at least some of the switches leading to Hill Yard West Wye were still remotely activated (from the tower, I presume). Notie the partially shielded auto cars. Crime was just beginning to take a toll against these exposed cargoes but graphitti was not yet the universal scourge on even the closed auto cars of this day. Drugs and crime not to mention mergers and trucking have taken away many of the lineside pleasures of watching freight trains Thanks for helping to bring the better days back.
