Bluebirds were still ruling the roost on the old Fitchburg Division as shown by this four unit lashup headed by GP-9 #1730 followed by GP-18 #1750 at the still-manned Gardner tower. Gardner lived on in later years, at least in name, as being the "Gardner Dispatcher" in radio transmissions from centralized dispatching at Billerica. This train would soon be using its dynamic brakes as it rolled eastward downgrade around the B&M's "horseshoe curve" in South Ashburnham.
