Last Run of the Gilt Edge

An otherwise unremarkable photo of a train departing Route 128 station. This was the unmourned last run of the Gilt Edge, a train name that had been part of the New Haven for almost 80 years. It is heading to New York for the last time. The Boston- bound "Edge" has departed GCT and they will meet somewhere in southern Connecticut. It is one of the first of the Penn Central's economy actions on their reluctantly acquired New Haven Railroad.

Photographed by Ron DeFilippo, February 1, 1969.
Added to the photo archive by Ron DeFilippo, March 5, 2019.
