One of the greatest regrets of my life was to have never ridden this train. What was wrong with me???? I have Polaroid pictures of two of the four of these engines handling an official train making a ten minute stop in Ayer in the late winter of 1973 when higher ups from various northeastern railroads were thinking about seamless freight operations between Maine and Washington DC and Chicago. I’ll never forget the sounds those engines emitted and I envied those people standing on the back of the observation car as the train receeded towards Shirley
