MEC 374 - "This Far, and No Farther"This would be the end of the line for MEC 374 as it stopped running on Tuesday afternoon (4/2) for the NA-1 Crew as they headed north. 374 was left in a very accessible spot right by the SNHU Depot Road Parking Lot in Hooksett, hardly an everyday occurrence. The train was left there until Wednesday afternoon (4/3) when the NA-1 Crew with MEC 381 towed everything back to Manchester yard, and stored 374 on the south end of the runaround track. The NA-2 Crew would go north to Concord with 381 and the loaded cars that evening. On Thursday evening (4/4), an entire train of empties along with the dead 374 were taken south to North Chelmsford for pick up. So with just over six weeks of great 374 sightings, it all came to abrupt end right here. Lets hope it's an easy problem for the Pan Am mechanics to solve.
Since 2/4, two high short hooded GP40 have been the workhorses on "These New Hampshire Rails", first with 380 from 2/4 to 2/20 and 374 from 2/20 until 4/2. At this time, MEC 380 is reported to be the only high short hooded GP40 in service.
These very rare birds were worth every look !
