NA-1 / 374 Encore - W. Mitchell Street in ManchesterIt was a genuine treat catching this high short hooded GP40 on "These New Hampshire Rails" for just over six weeks throughout mid-February, March, and early April. 374 was one of two consecutive high hood appearances in 2019, rotated in after 380 had radiator issues and was shut down in Nashua Yard.
This was taken March 1st, with the NA-1 Crew / 374 taking a lengthy complement of both empties from the Merrimack customers, and loads for the Manchester and north customers into Manchester Yard.
Here they were passing a crossing, that you don't see an abundance of pictures from, West Mitchell Street in Manchester. This picture holds a little more value, since the unused signals and pole on the right have since been removed.
374's time here lasted just over six weeks, before a breakdown sidelined the engine by SNHU in Hooksett in early April. It was repaired in Waterville and returned to service briefly before being taken out of service again. 380 is the only high short hooded GP40 out of the remaining seven in active service at this time.
Lets hope 374 and a few of these remaining high short hooded GP40's get to turn a wheel in revenue service again !
