Loaded up and ready to go

Viscose Company #6 is loaded onto a trailer, ready to leave the CACV while the diesels get ready to be put to bed for the night. This is the first time since the 1970's that the CACV has had an active steamer on the line and who knows when the next time will be. A great weekend was had by all!

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

I spent some time in England and was surprised to find that (at least at the time I was there) tourist rail operations rented out steam locomotives, some quite large, for certain periods of time. They were hauled around the country on special trailers.

This particular locomotive isn't owned by any one railroad. It's owned by an individual and all it does is travel from one railroad to another on a low boy trailer. This was a special occasion so the railroad spent the extra money to have it for a weekend, but because of the cost involved it's not something we'll likely be doing again anytime soon.
