This B&M 4-4-0 #1014 has that ancient look about it, what with the sharply tapered boiler, narrow firebox, slide valves, Stephenson inside valve gear, classification lights mounted on the sides of the smokebox, and the old-style cab. B&M thought enough of it to equip it with head end power to light up their ancient coaches, but not enough to avoid scrapping in 1940. Seeing it was built in 1911, the arithmetic says it lasted only 29 years. Many diesels lasted much longer.
