Bringing Back The Empties

Springfield Terminal #644 (ex ATSF 4674) glides around the curve just west of Sandy Pond Road in Ayer with empty hoppers from the power plant in Bow, NH. The second unit is an ex-Detroit Edison engine which no doubt earned its keep for the former owner by hauling black diamonds. (Sorry, I have to estimate the year of this shot because there are no markings on the slide)
