The Deadline

Four months into the Penn Central takeover of the New Haven this row of condemned New Haven was recorded at South Boston. You'll need an original Diesel Spotters guide to identify some of these first generation diesels including an Alco DL-109, a couple of HH600s, S-1s, an RS-1 and a Fairbanks Morse Trainmaster. Most of these engines served side by side with steam and like the rows of those steamers with their fires dropped forever, it is now these diesel engines' turn. Also remarkable in this view is the Boston skyline with the old Boston Fire Dept. Traiming Center tower and the John Hancock Building as the only prominent tall buildings visible in the background.
