It's Getting Time To Say Goodbye

Boston and Maine Mogul #1493 simmers while one of "the Invaders" B&M GP-7 #1576, idles behind. Ironically, most of the big steam has been taken out of service and only the small steamers are working the last commuter runs on the branch lines. Engines like the 1576 will replace the remaining steam. The water towers, the coal tower and the water plugs will soon be unneeded. Credit Al Hale for this photo taken in East Somerville..

Photographed by Al Hale negative in collection of Ron DeFilippo, 1954.
