The Pan Am and what passes for an economy of today are not our father’s railroad nor the boom times of the 1940’s-1960’s Posted by Stephen Demboske on 2020-02-29 11:56:33 These days, the Nashua locals come north once, maybe twice a week, there were six coal trains that ran to Bow between Thanksgiving and the first of the year, and the "Northern Main" is a big branch line, connected to another big branch line. I am sure if there is any likelihood of extending commuter rail service to Manchester or even Concord, a modern signalization system would be installed.. Posted by Jay Gadon on 2020-02-29 12:09:30 This is a sad photo. One of these would look good planted in my backyard and standing tall! Signals seemed to have come full circle-in the days of oil lamps, signals were always on, they had to be, then came electric lamps, which were only on as needed due to power consumption/lamp burnout. Now I've noticed that most signals are on 24/7, and I assume this is due to the use of LED lamps, which use very little power and last "forever".
