MEC 503 @ South Commercial Street in Manchester

With the NH Fisher Cats not playing baseball with the ball park to the right of this picture, you have a better chance of seeing a train than seeing a baseball game being played at this time unfortunately.

But if you enjoy the sight and sounds of a train, then call this a 'home run'. Here was the Nashua Local tied down by the day crew. The night crew would take this train north to Bow and Concord. Seeing one loaded coal car was a bit unusual for the Local, but the car must have been bad ordered and repaired. 22 loads made up this train, with 20 cars destined for Ciment Quebec in Bow.

MEC 503 hasn't been on these NH Rails in a few years, last time 503 was sighted in Manchester, it was sandwiched between Pan Am's pristine FP9's used for bringing up parts of the last ever Circus Train Extra to Manchester. The Nashua Crews had the use of 503 after that.

The Blue Dipped Canadian Comfort Cabs have been regular sightings on these N H Rails. Great to see! Since late January, 515, 505, 512,502, and 504 have preceded 503.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

I think I read somewhere (railroad.net?) that there's customer who takes single cars of coal. I can't remember what it is for - might be "metallurgical coal" which is different than coal for power or heating purposes.

Mark, there is no customer on the Northern Main Line that I am aware of that receives a single load of coal. Maybe a 'one and done' oddball delivery, at some point in time, or maybe another place?? That was a CSX Coal Car, and it did get delivered to the coal plant in Bow.
