NA-2 503 at the Concord Runaround TrackThe process for the Pan Am Crews to head south from Concord starts here at the modest sized Runaround Track. Usually there would be a cut of cars occupying the space on the main track as the crew ran around their train. Tonight was a little different. The visible hopper contains Ciment Quebec's "Secret Sauce", a unique mixed blend that requires special placement, and would be taken back with the engine on the second runaround.
MEC 503, a GP40-2L(w), has been the power for the Nashua Crews since mid-May. 503 was sent out to Paducah Kentucky for a rebuild and second blue repaint for most of 2014, and is owned by GATX and leased back to Pan Am. One of the more noticeable changes was the bell was moved from the center of the cab between the number boards to underneath in front of the big fuel tank.
