MBRX 901 at Wilton

Happy 30th Anniversary to the Milford Bennington Railroad Crew. Here was MBRX 901, their SW900 acquired from Canadian National, on display on the their side of the boundary with CSX at the Howard Street Crossing in Downtown Wilton.

Milford Bennington continues it's 'conveyor belt' operations between the Granite State Concrete quarry in Wilton and their plant in Milford in a push/pull manner. A caboose acts as a shoving platform to lead the move of empty cars north back to the quarry.

The track from this point, north, to the quarry yard limits are in impeccable shape. On the south side of this 'great divide', the CSX owned (formerly Pan Am) tracks from Wilton to Milford could use some investment as trains will crawl along at very slow speeds, until arriving at the plant in Milford.

There are no other regular movements on the Hillsboro Branch, north of the Granite State Quarry Switch, though the line sees various degrees of maintainance almost to the end of the line at a bridge over the Contoocook River and Antrim Road in Bennington just to the south of Monadnock Paper. The tracks on the bridge deck are boarded over, and there's a chain link gate blocking access to the span.

If any whispers grow louder of Monadnock Paper resuming shipments by rail, after about a 35 year hiatus, that particular bridge will need to be dealt with, as Monadnock Paper was very supportive of the sale of Pan Am Railways to CSX.

But anyways, back to this picture.. Happy 30th Milford Bennington Railroad !
