Downeaster Train 684 Completing Crossover Move at Rockingham Jct.

Diesel exhaust erupts from the stack of AMTK 119 (P42DC) as the engineer cracks the throttle preparatory to accelerating along the passing track west of Rockingham Jct. None of my images of this train show similar exhaust above AMTK 98 leading this train, suggesting it was either shut down completely or perhaps idling and unaffected by the throttle, as there appears a bit of heat haze above the 98 in this photo but no diesel smoke. I suspect passengers and others around the train in North Station appreciate the inactive role of the lead unit on Boston-boound Downeaster trains, even when that unit is not one of the Downeaster NPCU's.
