P&L 1186, South of Foster Street in Plymouth For a long time, P&L 1186 has served as either a secondary or a tertiary backup power option, mostly in Lincoln. It's been many years since this 1952 built former B&M ALCO S3 (with S1 trucks) has ventured further south than the Lincoln wye.
On the evening of 10-08, here was the Crew taking P&L 1186 heading south to Meredith, as they approached the Baker River bridge in Plymouth. Route 3 / Main Street is on the right, and the Common Man Inn is behind the picture taker.
Seeing this Museum Piece move, was a first. The 1186 will most likely serve as a backup power option, but won't be the oldest locomotive in Meredith.. P&L 302 was built for the Rock Island in 1950..
Perhaps there's irony that 1186 was moved on 10-08, While P&L 1186 was the first engine purchased that launched the Hobo Railroad, P&L 1008, a state of NH owned ALCO S1 was the second locomotive added to their roster.. P&L 1008 has been stored out-of-service at Lakeport for over a decade.
Perhaps a slight tribute to the P&L's history.
It's not too often to see former B&M power running on former B&M rails in this part of NH, and we'll certainly take it.
